Warden of Time...a must read for lovers of historical fiction...don't let the fantasy catagory fool you.

Fun! I love how Sarah Woodbury uses an alternative universe to be able to change the timeline of history. And if you are Welsh, it's the way history should have been. This is the 8th book in the series and I highly recommend that you start with the first book. All the books in this series are full of adventure and just enough romance. She really brings you into the world of 13th century Wales and England. Other people will give you a synopsis of the book. I just want to say make sure you set a good chunk of time aside, because once you start, you will not want to stop until the end and then you will want more. Thanks Sarah! When's the next one due out?

After Cilmeri never fails

Warden of Time is even more interesting to lovers of history. While not a true Arthurian fantasy, the After Cilmeri series deals with the return of David and Anna, which saves Llywelyn's life and starts a different arc to this alternate reality where Edward I dies instead and David ends up accidentally starting a belief that he was the return of Arthur and ends up not only Prince of Wales, but King of England. While he hates this, he is convinced not to publicly disavow it and it saves his life many times and gives the people of Wales, England and Scotland a feeling of hope and rightness.

David has two enemies: The Pope and The King of France. He knew he was going to have to do something about The Catholic Church and their stand on torturing supposed religious heretics and Jews. He is trying to feel his way through that when he accidentally discovers bombs from Avalon in the castle gardarobes. He evacuates Canterbury Castle minutes before the castle blows with no fatalities. He discovers that both the Papal Legate and King Henri want him to give up his claim to the Duchy of Acquitaine. Lee, the Avalon discontent they moved from Wales to England to keep and eye on, has killed his two other Avalon discontent partners in crime and has met French spies to plot the death of David. David feels bad because he dumped the Avalon bus passengers on his Mom, Queen Meg and has yet to come up with a way to solve the Irish Protectorate Situation. Both of these combine when Irish sympathizer Lee seeks to kill David for the French and to disrupt power to benefit the Irish lords.

Luckily Callam is an anti-terrorist agent for MI-5 as well as the Earl of Shrewsbury. Callam and David must split up to save England from a French invasion. This series never fails to deliver action and clever blending of actual history and the logical extension of the characters viewpoints to produce the alternate history. I cannot wait for the next installment.

David Continues to Surprise Me

David and his immediate family have this curious "chrono-threat-flight" gift that pulls them out of life-threatening situations. I have followed this series all the way through this eighth installment. I never expected any of them to have a "double threat" scenario that occurs within the context of one singular event. You will have to read to see which of this gifted family gets to experience this unexpected outcome, as well as the results. Don't want to spoil it, so I won't "throw you under the time-traveling bus." :) Now that I've finished this last installment, I can't help but wonder just how far this gift extends---by that I mean will any of David's (or his mom's or sister's) offspring also possess this extraordinary ability? Also, it's clear the more events are changed from their "home" universe, the less David and his family can predict an outcome, based on their implemented changes. I'll just have to sit down and muse about it over some African coffee.

I buy every book I can find on archery and I have learned something new from each one. I especially love the detailed guidance in this book on fine tuning a bow. the author is also British and his perspective and terminology is just a little bit different from that used by authors from the USA. a different perspective equates to a fresh approach. I think the title says it all but the author painstakingly explores all the variables that can impact your shot. don't miss this one

An excellent introduction to the equipment, setup and basic technique of Olympic Recurve Archery

Mr. Needham does an excellent job of introducing the technology, equipment, setup and basic techniques needed to get anyone started with Olympic Archery. He even goes so far as to describe the methods necessary to create one's own bow string (something I've not really considered before now). The chapters on setup and tuning are extremely useful as some of the material available online can be confusing to the novice.

Overall I would rate this book a must buy for anyone looking to take up the sport or has already had a basic introduction at a club and is now looking to purchase their first bow and advance to a more competent level.

The index is put in between the appendices of various tables and charts, if that tells you anything. To complete many problems you have to reference other textbooks and tables. It's a waste of space.

This book is not a get rich for dummies read. It is for the average middle to low income citizen wondering why economical growth is unobtainable.

Why taxes are always so high for them yet so low for the ultra wealthy. Or nonexistent in gains via investments.

It's the keyhole view into a hidden world dating back to feudal times.

How the world really works for the one percent

If you want to understand why the rich keep getting richer, and what the whole Panama Papers scandal was really about, this is your book. It is the clearest, most compelling description of the global wealth game I have ever read. It's also very illuminating about the idea that it's 'smart' for the wealthy not to pay taxes, which we have been hearing so much about lately.
As for 'Adam Wayne,' the reviewer who complains that this isn't the 'get rich quick' guide he expected, anyone who thinks that Harvard University Press publishes that kind of thing is not the brightest bulb in the shed, if you know what I mean.
Read this book for what it says about globalization and the one percent; it also has fascinating insights on the lives of the world's wealthiest people, as seen by their servants. Some of the stories are hilarious, many are shocking; the whole thing will make you a lot smarter about how the world really works.

Stay away.

The author is an associate professor of Sociology at Copenhagen Business School. Reading her book, I thought she might as well be a paid hack working for those wonderful people, wealth managers, and their even more wonderful organization, STEP (Social Transformation and Educational Prosperity). A pity, for the topic is both important and interesting.

A betwitching debut

Having never heard of either the title or the author, I nevertheless purchased the book as the absurd premise rather intrigued me: a fictional modern mega-city called Hennington that is normal in seemingly all respects but for its peaceful co-existence with a large herd of rhinos (technically called a crash). Reinforcing the fictionality of the environment, Ness introduces new words for established concepts e.g. "Forum" replaces heroin, "Rumour" replaces religion.

The book deftly weaves in and out of a dizzying number of storylines involving Hennington's colourful characters: a millionaire octogenarian, a powerful golf course owner, a still-lactating 40-year old plus accountant/prostitute, a well-endowed gay waiter, an attractive out-of-towner with nefarious plans, etc. etc. Each chapter dedicates itself to one of these plots and rotates to the others accordingly. As many of the chapters are only 4-5 pages long, the reader is constantly juggling the various plots and puzzling together what went before and how the various story pieces fit together. The narrator function is liberally spread among characters, human and non-human alike, as well as an external narrator; oftentimes, the shift in textual orientation occurs in the same sentence.

The multiple plots gradually coalesce into a sole narrative, and we see how the seemingly unrelated actions of one person nevertheless affect another (much like the vaunted `butterfly theory,' where the flapping of a butterfly's wings in one part of the world lead to tiny atmospheric changes that can eventually cause a tornado somewhere else). As the title suggests, the fate of the city is inexorably intertwined with the fate of the rhinos. The rhinos serve a sub-plot function, and like many of Shakespeare's plays, anticipate and suggest important developments in the main story lines. The rhinos are actually quite interesting; Ness obviously took the time to understand their social organization, individual traits, and feeding habits and makes their actions in a sprawling metropolis as believable as can be. The reader is usually privy to the mind(?) of the herd's leader; a compassionate middle-aged female whose over-arching concern is the welfare of the crash. Her frequent deliberations with notions of leadership, responsibility, self-sacrifice, and hope are very similar to the psychological entanglements the human characters must face.

Howlingly funny in places, unspeakably tragic at others, but always entertaining, this was one book I had great difficulty putting down. The book is all the more impressive as this is Ness' debut novel. I will definitely be on the look out for any further Patrick Ness offerings and would highly recommend anyone else to do the same.

Inventive and involving.

'Crash of Hennington' gives you so many characters that it's hard to believe each one strikes you as real. Yet the dialogue and motivations behind each personality are so spot-on and true to human nature that it's impossible not to care about, wonder about, or even fear (in some cases) the characters -- and that includes the rhinoceros leader -- whose thoughts and intentions are painfully human, thanks to Ness's vivid insights. The alternate world we're presented is also not that difficult to imagine; there is no technology beyond our grasp, and no religious belief that isn't mirrored by anything in our existence. It's a glimpse into a world that could be ours, and at people who could be us. I highly recommend it.
