Warrior gods and Demons and vulnerable humans, nothing but bloody trouble... but entertaining

"RUMBLE!" breaks the mold of what good visceral, epic tale telling can be. John Arcudi's dialog is crisp and has a sharp wit, somewhat self deprecating too. The back story of the characters is arresting. The best part is even the bit players have parts, including the minor demons that are introduced and... well, I'm not giving that away. This is a big world story that comfortably fits on the page and delivers all the bells and whistles without being the actual bloated epic it could be. Best of all, Bobby, the bartender could have been a joke. He's skinny, unsure of himself, but he has a lot of character and this appears to be his reluctant chance to be someone with more going on. His buddy Del is a lot of fun, full of beans, but not so bright. Rathraq, the warrior god is kind of inspired by old world tales of demigods, eternal but also vulnerable. He's mean and powerful but a defender of humanity, and I like that he's NOT Conan or Thor, but kind of a nod to both. Anyway, he wants his body back. Old demons with serious attitudes and their own ancient grudges have it.
That's all I'm saying.
This was in my top three comics this year and I'm pleased the collection has arrived. There's more to come as the series continues to unfold. Even my wife liked it.

Wizard of Oz meets Conan the Barbarian... in a bar?

I'm a fan of John Arcudi's writing on B.P.R.D. and James Harren's artwork, so I thought I'd check out this series. I'm a little biased in favor of this book since I got to meet Harren at Emerald City Comic Con '15 and he was gracious enough to take some time and give me a really helpful critique of my comic book art portfolio. It was fun to see his original art for BPRD - full of ink splatters, white out and glued in fixes. While many artists (including myself) have switched to drawing digitally, Harren has committed to doing things the old fashioned way and as a result his work has a lot of kinetic energy missing from a lot of books. Arcudi's weird run-dow, demon infested story allows Harren to really cut loose with a more exaggerated style than BPRD, while the (human) characters themselves remain a bit more down to earth.

I use the Wizard of Oz as a comparison in my heading, but I'm talking about L. Frank Baum's book, which is much stranger than the movie, where we learn the Woodsman became made of tin after accidentally hacking himself to pieces with a cursed ax. There are a few really great moments in Rumble, especially a couple pages of a dumpster diving cat and a three-legged dog that actually made me laugh out loud. There is a lot of promise for more bizarre stories to come, but I do think as an introduction it fell a little short of my high hopes. I usually find expositional narrative boxes in comics to be lazy and tedious, but I think a little bit more context would have been helpful for this fast paced story. The cover character, a Conan-type, warrior-possessed scarecrow, doesn't seem so out of place when set amongst a rundown city full of colorful characters and demonic entities. One of the things that works about Hellboy is how bizarre he looks standing next to regular people in regular places. Here, everything looks weird and so some of the impact of the intrusive fantasy/demonic elements is lost. I'm also not sure who I'm supposed to be rooting for yet.

That being said, this series is packed with enough action and humor to keep me interested. Arcudi's strength in BPRD was rounding out one-dimensional characters in the established Hellboy universe, so I'm hopeful the second arc will help flesh out the world and characters a bit. Also, James Harren draws some of best monsters in the business.

Great monster massacre stuff, funny and fast paced. Graphic violence only if you are scared off by the image of something like Ren and Stimpy getting disemboweled, because that's about the style we are talking about here. Colorful and easy to get into.

Learning about the real earth we live on is fascinating. Do we really live on a planet ? ~ or has something extraordinary been hidden for 500 yrs.under the control of a few in powerful places? What are the facts and proofs? When you look up to the sky are we really traveling over 1000 miles an hour on a spin? Are we also traveling around the sun at 67,000 mph ?? And then around the Milky Way at 514,000 mph???~ with not even the slightest hair out of place? Why doesn't the atmosphere fly off our "planet" when we are surrounded by a vacuum of unfathomable measure.Great Info Here if you want to know.

PreSchool-Grade 1-The bunnies that introduced wee ones to the alphabet, counting, and time are back in this merry little travelogue. The family sets off for a vacation filled with just about every mode of transportation imaginable, including a car, train, ferry, tractor, and, finally, an airplane ride home. The rhyming text allows children the chance to shout out the missing last word before the turn of the page: "Bunnies pedal over the hills,/Chasing, racing, taking spills,/Jumping ditches, getting stuck./Now, bunnies, hop into the-." Each colorful spread is dominated by a particular conveyance and hides a visual hint on how the creatures will get to their next destination. For the story's sake, these animals have handlike paws. The closing spread fails to show how the bunnies get from the airport to their home, an omission that stops the fun of the visual game. Still, the book is amusing, and children will enjoy guessing the next words and looking for the clues.

On each spread a visual clue foretells the next kind of travel, and the last word of the rhyming text is left off, to be revealed on following page. The anticipation and the guessing game work together to forestall questions about the time frame: How long are the bunnies gone? The question is subtly dealt with when the family returns home to find green vines climbing the walls of their home: the potted plant depicted on the opening pages has apparently been growing for some time. As in the three previous Bunnies books by this team, the detailed illustrations are lively and colorful. Preschoolers may need some help understanding the ending, but most kids will quickly catch on to the gimmick and scrutinize the picture scenes for hints about the mode of transportation the bunnies will choose--from train to tractor, from boat to balloon. Love this book!

I have a ton of books for my young kids, but this is really one of my favorites. The pictures are just delightful -- fun for the kids to look at and for me (I find something new in there every time I read it). And the words are cute and talk about different forms of transportation.

This particular copy that I ordered was in great condition and I happily gave it as a gift.

Love this Bunny series.

My 2-year old loves these books. There is enough detail in the illustrations that it keeps her attention for a long time.
Because this one rhymes, she also was able to remember the story more and recite some of the phrases from memory.

Bunnies are a big hit with our shorties

This book has been a perennial favorite of my nephews and niece for many years. This is not the most literary, hip book that I've given them, but the one that they ask me to read the most. I think the simple story works well with the toddler set, and the bunnies are cuties.

T.L. Osborn isn't that different from the rest of us after all.

This is an unusual book for T. L. Osborn. Having read his classics like "Soul Winning" and "Healing the Sick" it was a bit disorienting for me to read such an up-close, soul-searching account of T.L. Osborn asking the question of why God allowed his wife Daisy to pass away before her time. Read any other T.L. Osborn book and you'll see page after page recounting the faith-inspired miracles that God accomplished through T.L. and his wife Daisy's preaching around the world. None of that is present in this book, and that's a good thing in my opinion. It shows that even after a life time of supernatural ministry the man T.L. Osborn isn't really that much different than the rest of us after all. By allowing his readers a glimpse into his struggle with God, Osborn has done his reader's a tremendous service. He has humanized himself. In this manner, "Why?" stands in the same tradition of King David when he asked in the Psalms the same types of questions that Osborn raises in this book.

When this book arrived I started to read it and it was so detailed that I finished it before I left it down. The author spoke of the dark time during the death of his beloved wife. They married as teenagers and spent fifty three years together as missionerys they travelled across the world spreading their message of god love for all mankind. Together they saw they saw miracles whenever they went, now his wife had departed this life the faith of the author was tested. He moves through his grief writing about how gods love sustains him, at the hardest and worst points of his grief. This book is written from the grieving husband heart with the view to help others understand that god is with us in all situations just trust him

Change within a human lifetime begins with a chapter about the early stages of development in utero, continues throughout the book with the developmental histories of different parts of the eye, and concludes, in the Epilogue, with accounts of postnatal growth, maturation, and senescence. Change throughout human history in the way we have understood our eyes is another story, fragments of which are contained in a series of "vignettes" about some of the people and ideas that have influenced human thought about the eye over the past several thousand years.

The Human Eye; Structure and Function, Clyde W. Oyster

This is an excellent book which covers comprehensively the structure and function of the human eye as its subtitle implies. The selection of subject matter is balanced, clearly presented and well illustrated. The book is sprinkled with interesting illustrated historical vignettes reminiscent of those in the classical Duke-Elder, which add, for me at least, valuable sparkle to the corresponding text. The book will be of great value to students studying the eye, professionals in the field, and perhaps equally to health professionals and students in other fields, or to any sophisticated reader looking for an up to date summary of the subject. There is an excellent expanded table of contents which can be browsed to get a quick overview of the text. Researchers will enjoy the book, but will not find specific references to the topic covered though there are comprehensive lists of sources for further reading. This is a book which deserves to be on the shelf of any collection of books about the eye

This book is a well-written and wonderful example of scholarship at its best. The author draws from a tremendous breadth of research to generate a comprehensive understanding of the eye and its intricacies. Moreover, the writing is sufficiently well developed to make the text engaging and highly readable. Oyster imparts a remarkable enthusiasm for his material and does so by integrating aspects of cell biology, optics, pathology, anatomy and neurobiology. This is an excellent work and a pleasure to read.

A Extremely Useful Resource!

My MLS Immunology professor used this book for our case studies, and it was a very helpful study guide as it explained basic concepts of Immunology different than a traditional textbook would. It really helps you understand the etiology and physiology of various disease states, AND you can read just like a regular book. Easy to understand and follow. I highly recommended.
