An essential reference annual for the modern learning professional

This is a great reference for anyone working in the learning and/or training space with an interest in reading across the key topics on everyone's minds from mobile learning to LMS to Social Media. It is a great reference for anyone contemplating overcoming the diverse range of challenges in their learning organization. The Annual present a nice spread of topics from authoring tools to how learner's needs have changed and I like the format of the annual. As an experienced training professional and learning technologist I am interested in opinion's and thought leadership across several areas and the annual collates this nicely and provides this in a very digestible structure and gives food for thought on many levels. I would recommend this annual for anyone working in eLearning, Training & Development, and Learning Technology and Innovation.

Excellent industry overview, i really enjoyed the polarized view articles on the same topic. I very much hope that Allen will release 2016 version this year, since elearning world has been developing quite rapidly and some content is outdated.

Could have been half the length and twice as interesting.

The book was fairly interesting. The author rarely explained how he came to some of the profiling conclusions that he reached. It seemed that the book became repetitive in the sense that the author would just say "I predicted the killer would have this set of traits, and lo and behold, he did!"
The author has led a very impressive life, and he is very aware of that fact.

I am referring to the audio cassette version of Mindhunter. After ordering it twice here on Amazon and instead getting a paperback romance called My Loving Enemy by Pat Wallace, I knew something was amiss.

So I bought it on ebay where I could clearly see a photo of the exact item the seller was selling.

I am now holding both items in my hands, and they do have the exact same ISBN's. So I looked online and indeed sometimes completely different books can have the same ISBN.

His landmark tell-all is tantalyzing in all the right places - giving just enough information regarding the Bureau's developing school/s of thought with respect to applied psychoanlytics during it's early years to have you literally begging for more. Information on methodologies are without any [tedious] detailing while Douglas consistently follows up with effective, sometimes harrowing!, anectodal implementation of such. ( more often, a second consideration or 'extra-' careful analysis yields Douglas himself to have been the direct causal agent of the [eventual] apprehension of UNSUB X, lending a 'real-life Superman' air to an outwardly simple man, nd one whom is unlikely to toot his own horn regardless of a legendary status.) ...Over-all : MINDHUNTER spares us lackluster minutiae of statistics, development, Bureau directives, etc. Instead, any average untrained John Q finds himself priveledged to - fortunately & fleetingly - prowl in the shoes of an elite: an expertly-trained, man-to-machine - MindHunter

DAVID SANDNER is Assistant Professor of Romanticism and Children's Literature at California State University, Fullerton. He published Fantastic Sublime (Greenwood, 1996) on the influence of the Romantic sublime on 19th-century children's fantasy literature, and co-edited a collection of 19th and early 20th-century fantasy, The Treasury of the Fantastic (2001).

Indispensible book for both students and critics

Fantastic Literature is a real treasury of essays on the wide subject of the fantastic. Tzvetan Todorov's book The Fantastic is the first book dealing exclusively with the fantastic literature - before that there were only bits and pieces as the authors discussed the fantastic while discussing imagination, realistic novel or the purpose of literature. To collect all those essays when writing a thesis or a paper would be taxing to say the least. Sanders's collection comes very useful - especially as the texts were carefully chosen and edited. Collected essays when read as a whole provide an exhaustive overview of literary criticism in that field. They also demonstrate the connection of the sublime and the fantastic, of imagination and the role of literature in society - while incorporating diverse critical voices.

For the student the book makes the algorithms accessible, the Toolbox code can be read to gain understanding, and the examples illustrate how it can be used ―instant gratification in just a couple of lines of MATLAB code. The code can also be the starting point for new work, for researchers or students, by writing programs based on Toolbox functions, or modifying the Toolbox code itself.

The purpose of this book is to expand on the tutorial material provided with the  toolboxes, add many more examples, and to weave this into a narrative that covers robotics and computer vision separately and together. The author shows how complex problems can be decomposed and solved using just a few simple lines of code, and hopefully to inspire up and coming researchers. The topics covered are guided by the real problems observed over many years as a practitioner of both robotics and computer vision. It is written in a light but informative style, it is easy to read  and absorb, and includes a lot of Matlab examples and figures. The book is a real walk through the fundamentals of robot kinematics, dynamics and joint level control, then camera models, image processing, feature extraction and epipolar geometry, and bring it all together in a visual servo system.

Great book!

This is a great book for those who want to practice robotic concepts in MATLAB! The (free) robotics toolbox is a great tool to work with manipulators, and the book has several examples with real robots (like the famous PUMA). It also has some useful tools for mobile robots, but it only deals with the car-like and the quadrotor models. It misses the widely applied unicycle model, although it is ease to adapt the toolbox to work with the unicycle as well.
I didn't have time to get to the machine vision part, but the final part of the book unites robotics and machine vision, dealing with visual control for robots.
I think it is a very nice book for everybody that works with robotics!

A published robotics researcher myself, I find this is one of the most useful books I've come across. It excels in detailing both algorithm fundamentals and their actual implementations. The accompanying MATLAB toolbox is thorough, readable, and efficient.

A Splendid introduction to help your little ones grasp the meaning of middle class angst

It is the perennial question for most modern parents and that is when do I induct little Chlamydia, Jocasta or Harrison into the constantly rewarding world of modern art. Well help is at hand in this small but mighty tome. Replete with helpful pictures that not only capture the essence of works of ‘no meaning’ but also act as a visual reference to what you should encounter in any self respecting and, one would hope, ‘self loathing’ modern art gallery.

This is the first in a series of what I am sure will be invaluable educational aids for the socially upwardly mobile amongst us. Your child needs to know and more importantly appreciate the utter void of talent that represents true art. It is pointless and that is the point. At once confusing and yet totally understandable. But for the untrained eye and developing brain of little Thermopylae , Shakira or Bronson this may need to be addressed in a more sensitive way and this gem of a manual will be your god send in this quest.

My only quibble is that it is only 44 information packed pages and I managed to finish it over a period of several weeks as my injuries from being over critical at a Damian Hirst preview mean that I find it difficult to turn pages. I am moist with anticipation of the follow up and also think it’s about time this foundation considered a reissue if their exceptionally helpful 1938 publication ‘Why we burn books’ an early learning guide to fascism – my copy ironically got burnt during an impromptu police raid during an unconventional power cut – such is life, such is art and such is marvellous literature.

Don't think twice about getting this cookbook!

Ok, I bought this for my married daughter. Thanks to this book, cheesecakes have become her "trademark." She kept telling me about all the amazing cheesecakes she was making from here, and the accolades from whoever she makes it for. I was drooling, long distance.

I finally decided to buy myself one! What a fantastic cookbook! I just made the Lemon Curd Swirl Cheesecake for Easter, and everyone was raving over it. The crust is made out of Lemon Oreos, and is good as the cheesecake itself! My husband used to think he didn't like cheesecakes, but he is changing his mind big time!!!

I made the Cranberry Orange Cheesecake for Christmas - out of this world. The perfect sweet-tart combo.

Made the Milk Chocolate Cheesecake for company a couple months ago - they couldn't stop raving about it.

The appetizer cheesecakes are phenomenal, too.

Cheesecakes, I have decided, is the ultimate "make ahead" desert. Try baking a pie the "day before" - good luck. Cheesecakes actually MUST be made ahead, which is perfect for me.

George Geary is TOP NOTCH. He has been a visiting chef at the cooking school in my hometown, and he is fabulous.

I just bought one more copy, as a wedding shower present, along with a PUSH PAN, which i now prefer (and George Geary also prefers) over the spring form. They never leak, and never require any foil, etc.

The only cheesecake cookbook you'll ever need...

I own at least three cheesecake cookbooks but this my favorite. The recipe instructions are clear and easy to follow even for those who are new to baking. Although not every recipe has a photo, the illustrations are stunning and you'll get a good idea of the finished products.
The book starts off with a great introduction that includes basic techniques and equipment, common ingredients and FAQ. Next are 200 recipes divided into twelve categories like Fresh Fruit, No-Bake and Savory Cheesecakes (you should never need another cheesecake recipe). Each recipe is accompanied by tips and variations as well as the author's valuable insights. Another plus for me is the baking technique does not require a waterbath which is tricky for a novice and can result in a soggy crust.
After searching everywhere online(including eBay) Amazon had the best price and you can even add a Fat Daddio cheesecake pan to your purchase to make sure you qualify for free shipping.

If you love cheesecakes...

If you enjoy baking cheesecakes then you will enjoy this book! I have tried the following recipes and they turned out great: tiramisu, banana split, mango, and pineapple!
Easy to follow recipe and it even has an introduction on how to properly bake the cheesecakes.
note: the book doesn't mention baking in a waterbath but I do to prevent cracking.
